How To Easily Relieve Your Dog’s Itchy Skin

Dog Itching?

Does your dog constantly lick, bite and scratch her rear end, paws and/or tail?  Does it make you sad and a bit frustrated?  Is the constant itching making your pooch uncomfortable…sore…miserable…distressed…?  If yes, please keep reading.

Firstly, I want to say that you and your dog are not alone, itchy skin problems are among the top reasons dogs are taken to the vet.

The skin is a reflection of what’s going on inside

The skin is often the only outward reflection of what’s going on inside your dog’s body.  There are many ways your dog’s skin and coat can show you that something’s not quite right on the inside – here are just 3 examples:

1. If your dog eats something she’s allergic to, it might show up as a sore skin infection causing your dog to lick the affected area.

2. Environmental allergens, such as pollen, might cause itchiness and make your dog scratch and bite the itchy area to try and make the itchiness go away.

3. If your dog isn’t getting the right nutrients from the food she eats she may develop dry, flaky skin that makes her feel uncomfortable and therefore scratch.

Unfortunately, you can’t see what’s going on inside your dog’s body and she can’t tell you when and why she’s feeling unwell so you have to look out for signs in her skin, coat and behaviour that will tell you your dog isn’t feeling quite right.  The earlier you can do this, the better it is for your pup.

What can you do to help your dog?

The skin isn’t a system that works by itself; it ‘talks’ with all the body’s internal systems including the immune system, digestive system, kidney and liver.  If you can strengthen these internal systems your dog’s body will be able to prevent allergies and infections more easily and your dog’s skin and coat will look and feel shiner, glossier and healthier.  Plus your dog will be much happier.  One way to do this is to make sure your dog is getting natural and wholesome foods.

With humans, we sneeze, cough and wheeze when we’re allergic to something and we can feel quite unwell when we have an infection.  We, just like our dogs, can strengthen our immune system and soothe our symptoms by eating natural and wholesome foods.

One very fun and easy way to make sure your dog is getting more natural and wholesome foods is to feed her NutriNibbles!
